UKCMA Conference - Safer Crowds, Safer Venues
Safer Crowds, Safer Venues Conference
Presented by the United Kingdom Crowd Management Association
Headline Sponsors: EIF and Tees Valley Combined Authority
The inaugural Safer Crowds, Safer Venues conference will take place on the 12th and 13th March at Middlesbrough Town Hall.
Billed as the first of its kind, the conference will bring together the numerous creative, operational, and safety functions essential for hosting activities of all scales, offering a 360° perspective of the planning process and delivery environment for events and festivals.
It will also explore the challenges for cultural and sporting venues of all sizes, following on from the Manchester Arena bombing, the Brixton Academy fatal crowd crush, and the disorder at the UEFA EURO 2020 Final in 2021.
Chair of the UKCMA, Eric Stuart says:
'While we often work closely in high pressure situations on site, the various functions required to deliver a successful and safe event very rarely get to share the same classroom. This was our starting point when designing the conference. It was also clear that there was a dearth of learning and development opportunities like this in the North East, with most industry conferences taking place in the south, so we are delighted to bring this unique event to the North East.'
Keynote addresses will be delivered by: Baroness Casey, who will discuss disorder at the UEFA EURO 2020 Final in 2021; Laurence Taylor, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DACSO) of the Metropolitan Police, who will talk about the challenges of policing events and festivals; and Heather Baily, Chair of the Security Institute Authority, who will speak on the role of private security in festivals and events.
The conference will be relevant to a wide audience including crowd management professionals, local authorities, venue owners, arts organisations, promoters, students, and event organisers, and will feature speakers and training sessions tailored for all skill levels. The cost for both days is £75.00 and there are subsidised places available for students.
It is hoped that the conference can become an annual fixture in the North East calendar, enhancing the training opportunities for the ever-growing sporting, cultural and creative sector, as well as contributing to the local economy and hotel occupancy in the quieter months.
