BVEP Re-Elects Simon Hughes and Chris Skeith as Vice-Chairs

The Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) has announced the re-appointment of Simon Hughes and Chris Skeith as Vice-Chairs for a further two year term.

Simon Hughes has played an instrumental role promoting BVEP’s stance on issues arising from Britain’s imminent departure from the European Union and overseeing the events industry’s role within the Tourism Sector Bid under the government’s Industrial Strategy. Chris Skeith, who is currently the BVEP Treasurer, has been driving ongoing interaction with members and the board, advocating the resolution of industry issues and the creation and adoption of best practice. Simon Hughes and Chris Skeith are also active members of the Events Industry Board.

Samme Allen and Caroline Jackson will also continue their roles as Vice-Chairs for the BVEP for a further two year term.

Welcoming the re-appointments, Michael Hirst OBE, Chair, BVEP said: “Simon and Chris make invaluable contributions to the partnership. Their re-election is testament to the high regard in which both are held by partners. The period ahead is of critical importance for our industry; it is at times of change and uncertainty that a collective voice and sharing concerns and potential solutions is the most important. Simon and Chris bring enormous experience to this task and we are fortunate that they are prepared to give their time and energy to promoting the well-being of the events industry.”

Chris Skeith, CEO, Association of Event Organisers, said: “I’m delighted to have been re-elected as Vice Chair of the BVEP and my thanks goes to all the partners who voted for me. I’m honoured to be trusted by them to continue the sterling work of the partnership which every year reaches new heights and, with such political uncertainty at the moment, I hope to bring some consistency and support for the events sector.”

Simon Hughes, Founder of MCH Associates, said: “I'd like to echo what Chris says about our partners, for whom the BVEP exists to provide a collective view from right across the events industry. Many thanks to all of them for supporting the election process. We are facing turbulent times and maintaining a strong voice for UK events over the next couple of years will be critical. I look forward to supporting that”.
