TBOE - The Briefing (July 2023)

Martin Fullard, Director, News & Content at The Business of Events (TBOE) introduced July's Briefing from TBOE.

'Over the past six weeks we have been working with Government on two fronts. Firstly, we have been in advanced discussions with the Department for Business and Trade about partnering with International Trade Week, which has been confirmed for 6-10 November 2023, and we look forward to announcing more details relating to this in August.

Secondly, as Davies Tanner, we arranged for Theresa Villiers, Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, to engage with the VisitBelfast team and discuss their new Business Events Strategy. The meeting served as an opportunity to explore the potential benefits and economic impact that a robust business events sector could bring to Northern Ireland.

Next, we have released our 2023 International Planner Sentiment Report. The report illustrates the current thinking of event buyers from a range of disciplines across the UK, Europe and North America in terms of their priorities when selecting a destination or venue. Sustainability is tracking on average 1.5 points higher across all regions, although remains lower within the North American market, while both Skills & Talent and Equity & Diversity are tracking 1 point higher across all markets.

Another big development for TBOE this month is the announcement that we have partnered with VisitBritain and their Business Events team, which you can read more about below. The team places a great deal of emphasis on the fact that business events are more than just tools for economic growth, they are vital drivers for culture, education, and opportunity, and we look forward to working with them on a range of projects.

Finally, a word of thanks to our partners VisitScotland Business Events, ICC Wales, Cvent and VisitBritain, whose support continue to enable us to carry out vital policy research and industry reports. We would not be able to do the work we do without their assistance.

Here's to a great summer'
