After a welcome quieter August, the events industry is now firing on all cylinders and the Autumn season is going to prove to be an important period for the sector.
On 13 September, I was privileged to be asked to moderate two panel discussions at VisitBritain Business Event’s first Ambassador Reception. We were honoured to be joined by Sir John Whittingdale, Minister of State jointly in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. You can read more about what was discussed below.
On 14 September, we were delighted to see Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade in the House of Commons to consider the UK events sector as a key driver for both British exports and inward investment. Again, more information is below.
In August, we released our Events Economy Tracker – Q2, which highlighted a number of key findings, including the rising price of revenue per delegate alongside the fact that events continue to shrink in size. The report is available for download.
We are now working on our next report: the Global Destination Report. In partnership with Meet in Ireland, we will unveil the findings in a special session at IBTM World in Barcelona, 28-30 November 2023. We encourage as many destinations as possible to get involved. You’ll find a link to the survey below.
Lastly, we can confirm that we are working with IBTM World to populate the Destination stream on the Impact Stage. We have received several content proposal submissions, and the clock is ticking, so if you’re interested in securing a slot, make sure you submit your idea before 20 September.
