Editor’s letter - The power of ‘giving back’: The art of ‘giving back’ appears to be the message currently resonating across the industry. Whether it is through mentorship, education, or investing in people and industries, the act of contributing to the greater good strengthens our communities and fuels progress - as Broadsword (one of our industry partners) are already showcasing.
With the introduction of the new English and maths requirements, businesses will now be able to decide whether adult learners over the age of 19 will need to complete a level 2 English and maths qualification (equivalent to GCSE) in order to pass their apprenticeship. This allows more learners to qualify, boosting confidence, and equipping businesses with a more skilled workforce. This investment extends beyond individuals, contributing to the broader economy and shaping the future of the events industry.
The creative sector is also benefiting from a major boost, with hundreds of businesses and projects across the UK receiving government funding. This initiative marks the first step in the Government’s Sector Plan for the creative industries, ensuring businesses have the resources needed to grow, innovate, and continue their invaluable contributions to our cultural and economic landscape.
Beyond individual initiatives, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the social impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies are increasingly shaping business practices. Companies that embed these principles into their core operations are not justfulfilling an ethical duty but are also seeing tangible benefits in terms of reputation, employee engagement, and long-term sustainability.
Creating opportunities for the next generation remains a key pillar of our industry. The Fast Forward 15 mentorship program (as well as the Elevate Mentor programme) is a shining example of how experienced professionals can give back by guiding, supporting, and inspiring those at the beginning of their careers. Mentorship fosters growth, bridges knowledge gaps, and ensures the wealth of experience within industries is shared with those eager to make their mark.
As we navigate an ever-changing economic and professional landscape, one thing remains clear: giving back is not just an act of kindness; it is a necessity for progress. Whether through education, funding, apprenticeships, corporate responsibility, or mentorship, we all have a role toplay in shaping a stronger, more inclusive future.
Let’s continue to invest in people, champion new initiatives, and embrace the power of giving back.
