At its official Annual General Meeting, held on Tuesday 29th March 2022, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) re-elected the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP, Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet, as its Chair.

The meeting also elected five new Vice Chairs to support the work of the APPG, which were:

Alex Sobel MP Member of Parliament for Leeds North West
Greg Smith MP Member of Parliament for Buckingham
Chris Green MP Member of Parliament for Bolton West
Rachel Hopkins MP Member of Parliament for Luton South
Mark Menzies MP Member of Parliament for Fylde

During the AGM, members of the APPG were briefed on the work of the independent Think Tank, The Business of Events, and its new Policy Unit and industry wide consultation, which is looking to develop a specific Policy Agenda for the events sector.

Commenting on her re-election, Theresa Villiers said; “I am delighted to have been re-elected as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events following yesterday’s official AGM.

The events sector provides an enormous opportunity to deliver significant growth in our economy, help every community reach its productivity potential and contribute to the Government’s objective of creating opportunities for everyone in the UK.

I welcome the work of the recently launched Business of Events policy unit and look forward to working with them to develop new policy initiatives that can unlock the huge potential that exists within the UK’s world leading events sector.

I will continue to support this vital industry and represent it in Parliament and seek to ensure that its significance is recognised by my parliamentary colleagues and Ministers.”

The APPG also discussed the framework for its 2023/24 Parliamentary Plan of Work, which will be published in the coming weeks, and will set out its areas of priority during the next session of Parliament.
