This is a call out to the events industry to look at themselves and work with us to create some amazing opportunities for the eventprofs of the future…
A message from Richard Waddington
“There's been a lot in the press recently about apprenticeships, with the government talking about inappropriate degrees that would be more suited to apprenticeships, graduates not being able to afford university and turning to apprenticeship degrees and apprenticeships creating more openness to a far greater diverse workforce, which is exactly what we’ve been banging on about for the last six months.
Whilst coming from a privileged, socially economically sound family background, I certainly didn’t have the qualifications from school or in fact interest in going to university.
At fourteen I was fortunate enough to get a job at the local hotel in Malvern where I was working at weekends and holidays and where I eventually enrolled on a Trainee Manager scheme with them.
I loved the catering and hospitality industry, worked hard and excelled, struggled with my dyslexia and ADHD (both officially undiagnosed), ran the biggest in-house facilities for Warburg/UBS in the city, opened Spencer House for Lord Rothschild, then taking the leap of faith when offered the chance to work for Mastercard and create their events around their sponsorship of Euro96’, this is where I fell into events and First Protocol was born.
What I’m trying to say, amazing things happen when people put their mind to it and most importantly grasp the opportunity – but it takes someone else to also make a leap of faith and make the opportunity available – so this is a call out to the events industry to look at themselves and work with us to create some amazing opportunities for the eventprofs of the future.”
