2022: A year of rebuilding and recovery. HBAA/beam directors share their trends and predictions for 2022

2022 will be a year of rebuilding and recovery for the business events, accommodation, and meetings industry, according to the HBAA, soon to be known as beam.

Simon Richards, HBAA Treasurer and Managing Director of Convenus, predicts: “2022 will be a period of rebuilding and recovery. We must learn from our experiences and take the positives forward to develop and enhance our industry, which is where beam comes in to be a catalyst for the future.”

National Outdoor Events Association Report Highlights 2022 Staff Shortages

96% of event organisers are suffering from staff shortages, according to a survey taken on by the National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA), on behalf of the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS). The report also found that, of this number, 51% said they struggled to find staff, with a further 38% reporting that trained staff was the primary issues.

NOEA Launches DE&I Educational Programme

The National Outdoor Events Association has unveiled a series of workshops and educational sessions, focusing on the crucial subject of Diversity, Equality & Inclusion. The educational course has been developed in partnership with Wasserman and represents over £15,000 worth of CPD learning, but will be available for free to NOEA members in 2022.

LIVE & The Association of British Orchestras drive progress as Spain waives visas for UK touring artists

Artists touring to Spain will no longer need visas for short-term engagements in a dramatic change to the current onerous rules. The change follows months of dedicated work from LIVE and the Association for British Orchestras (ABO), working alongside Spanish counterparts Asociación Promotores Musicales.

The development represents a significant boost for the sector which has, as a result of Brexit and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement, seen European touring become more expensive, more complicated, and more difficult to execute.
